Collection: Rhodes, Greece - artist residency
On the island of Rhodes, Greece, I participated in a 2-week artist residency program in the captivating Old Medieval Town.
Immersed in the rich history of Greece, particularly inspired by visits to the Archaeological Museum and The Palace of The Grand Masters of Rhodes, encounters with timeless statues and architecture, I created this collection of four expressive semi-abstracted, minimalist paint sketches on A4 black canvas.
Using a variety of strokes of red and gold as if to breathe life into the canvas, meet Pallas Athena, the embodiment of wisdom; Zeus, the mighty ruler of the pantheon; Artemisia, the fierce and independent huntress; and Ares, the formidable god of war. These creations, infused with the spirit of classical Greek mythology, emerged quite quickly, capturing the essence of Greek’s ancient history.
